The General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) programme prepares students to provide safe, compassionate and competent nursing care to individuals, families and communities. It combines classroom learning, nursing-laboratory practice and supervised clinical experience.

The GNM programme commenced on 26 August 2021 at Sancheti Institute of Nursing Education (SINE), Pune, is intended to develop foundational nursing knowledge, practical skills, communication, professional ethics and patient-care competencies. Admissions, examinations and registration are subject to the applicable requirements of the Indian Nursing Council (INC), Maharashtra State Board of Nursing and Paramedical Education (MSBNPE), Maharashtra Nursing Council (MNC) and the relevant State admission authorities.

What You Will Learn

The programme builds foundational knowledge in nursing, anatomy and physiology, nutrition, infection prevention, medical-surgical nursing, mental-health nursing, community health, maternal health and child health. Learning also covers communication, professional conduct and safe patient care, in accordance with the approved GNM curriculum.

Learning combines classroom teaching, demonstrations, supervised practice in nursing laboratories and clinical postings. Clinical exposure and course content are delivered according to the applicable curriculum and the institution’s approved arrangements.

Hands-On Hospital Training

Nursing skills develop through supervised clinical practice as well as classroom learning. Students undertake clinical postings at the parent and affiliated healthcare facilities according to the approved posting schedule and institutional arrangements.

Nityanand Rehabilitation and De-addiction Centre, Katraj — 100 beds
Bharat Ratna Late Rajeev Gandhi Hospital (PMC), Yerawada — 200 beds Transport for clinical visits, where available, is provided as per institutional arrangements.

Higher Education After GNM

Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing (P.B.B.Sc. Nursing)

A common progression route for GNM graduates who meet the admission requirements.
Usually a 2-year regular programme; duration and mode are subject to the university’s current rules.
Typical eligibility includes a GNM certificate and registration as a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife (RN/RM) with the State Nursing Registration Council.

Post Basic Diploma / Specialty Nursing Courses

Critical Care Nursing
Emergency and Disaster Nursing
Operation Theatre Nursing
Other specialty areas, such as oncology, orthopaedic, paediatric, neonatal or psychiatric nursing, where offered and where eligibility is met.

Further academic study after completing the required nursing degree(s); M.Sc. Nursing generally requires B.Sc. Nursing or Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing and other prescribed eligibility, so it is not a direct entry route from GNM alone.

Course fee: 60,000 + Administrative charges as approved by Shikshan Shulk Samiti
Eligible students may apply for applicable Government or private scholarships, subject to scheme criteria, documentation, and approval.

Eligibility and Admission

Educational qualification: 10+2 with English and a minimum of 40% marks in the qualifying examination; English must also be passed individually. Science is preferable. Other eligible routes may include the prescribed vocational ANM or Health Care Science stream, or registered ANM candidates.
Age: No age limit
Entrance examination: MH-CET Nursing for the relevant academic year.
